Longer lanyards can have more utility, but have
stashability problems. A single end use lanyard, and trying to have ~12'
lanyard not in the way.
An
affordable, light, minimal material 1handed lanyard adjuster,that also
releases smoothly under load. Use a friction hitch, and this strategy;
better than more expen$ive mechanical, metal ascenders; except around icy or
pine tar etc. dirty conditions.
One version of Tom Dunlap's Double Ended, Double Adjustable Lanyard
strategy. Instead of self tending on the D-ring as above, this also employs
the option of threading lanyard thru attachment device as fair knot tender.
