~The Soil Sea~ Trees receive life necessities thru leaves and roots mostly. The root area is the more variable component. The air and sun will probably be the same quality (if unobstructed) 1000 feet away, but not the soil! Mychorhizae fungi are a key natural root ally, but more easily denatured, violated in people areas; so that trees and plants can lose this wonderful ally. This can be a serious strain/drain on the system, used to the services of the delicate fungi feeding the tree for millions of years. In one cup of soil, there should be miles and miles of microscopic filaments from fungi tunneling through the soil to process, richen and permeate the soil for other life forms and elements etc. These, delicate filaments are totally ruptured and killed enmasse as especially the first bulldozer tire rolls forward the first few feet. In addition, the lifespace of open soil permeability to allow growth and movement of life, as well as holding capacities for life elements of air, water etc. is totally, instantly shut off. The underground miners are gone,as well as the probability that any more could live, or work. Permeable soil takes less 'food' energy to grow through to get more food, while having richer elements that feed more available per inch at the same time. Also, the operation of bacteria etc. to fix/cleanse the soil of plant, insect etc. wastes is upgraded similarly to a healthy aquarium that can more deeply take care of itself. There is more Nature, so there is more Nurture in a quantity of rich active water or soil! In the dark sea of soil, this maybe harder to see, but in the best, richest, self naturally adjusting and enriching etc. system; this cannot be over looked! The defenses of wooden branch and spar to give some protection to the garden feeding the tree, doesn't work quite as well against steel, as it does against large animals as Nature designed!!
The area that absorbs the water and dissolved elements for a tree is not the woody roots, not the fleshy roots extended off of the woody, but fine root hairs, some of which can be infected with a mychorrhizal fungis as in animation to a 100's X higher absorbtion, then sending out filament hydra farther than the roots to bring water and elements free to the tree. A layer of film on outside root hairs and fungi finally gets close enough to being like water, that the water is taken into the vessels of the plant. This area is the.....

and dissolved nutrients to plants etc. Plus, if permeable to these elements
and their transportation, then the ground would be more permiable to roots.
For the growth and energy to get the food and water should be far less than
is received for the 'effort' or use of foods etc. This leaves
